Before you book
The questions people actually ask
You are still in training. Should that concern me?
It is a fair question and I would rather answer it here than have you wonder. I am completing my M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and practice under the supervision of Megan Byars, LPC, NCC, which means my work is reviewed regularly by an experienced clinician. What you get is careful, closely supervised attention. What I will not do is take on something outside what I am prepared for, and I will tell you plainly if that is the case.
I am not in crisis. Is this appropriate?
Yes. Most of the people I see are not in crisis. They want steady support with what is in front of them, or a place to work something out with someone who is not inside their life. You do not need to meet a threshold before this is worth your time.
I tried therapy before and just talked in circles.
That is one of the most common reasons people come to me. Talking about a pattern from a distance often does not reach it. That is exactly why I work with creative and expressive tools alongside conversation, and why I will name the connection I am seeing rather than waiting for you to arrive at it alone.
Does online work as well as in person?
For most of what I do, yes. Some of the creative work adapts, and I will tell you honestly at the start if I think something would land better in the room. Many people use both depending on the week.
What if it is not a fit?
Then I will say so and point you toward someone better suited. That can happen on the free call or three sessions in. It is not a failure, and you will not have to manage my feelings about it.
Getting started
Let’s talk for twenty minutes
It is not an intake, and you do not need to arrive with your situation neatly summarized. Ask me whatever you want about how I work, and I will tell you honestly if I think someone else is a better fit for what you are carrying.
Request a call
Tell me a little and I will reply within two business days with times.
Your message comes straight to me and no one else. I do not add anyone to a mailing list. If writing is easier than talking, say so and we can start there instead.
Nothing about this call commits you
It costs nothing, it is not an intake, and there is no follow-up sequence waiting for you. You will not be asked to decide anything on the call itself.
If at the end of it either of us thinks someone else would serve you better, I will say so and give you names. And if you do book a first session and it turns out not to be right, you can stop. You will not owe me an explanation.
